Jordan Peele’s upcoming sequel for Candyman (set for a June 12, 2020 release) may be cast soon and we will have a new incarnation of Daniel Robatille. As reported through several sources the actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II known for his roles in Aquaman, Netflix’s The Get Down and Peele’s upcoming Horror Thriller Us is in talks with MGM to play the title character after Tony Todd
The sequel is being produced by Jordan Peele (Monkeypaw Productions) with Nia DaCosta (Little Woods) is on board to direct.
The movie will be a contemporary follow-up to the 1992 horror film set in a now gentrified Cabrini-Green housing projects will continue the legend of the Candyman – Daniel Robatille was the son of a slave that later in life falls in love and fathers a child with a white woman in 1890, Daniel is set upon by a lynch mob hired by his lover’s father; they cut off his painting hand and replaced it with a hook. He was smeared with honey attracting hungry bees which stung him to death. His corpse was burned in a pyre and his ashes were scattered across the area where Cabrini-Green now stands
